Abstract

Due to the specialized nature of problems in health care management, expert systems are an effective technique for developing automated decision support systems. The authors have developed four expert systems to improve the quality of health care management services. These systems are used daily to identify potentially catastrophic or chronic cases, to review the medical necessity of surgical procedures, and to review the necessity of hospital admissions.
