This paper analyzes the May 2010 mobilization of subcontracted workers of private mining company, located in the region of Tarapacá. Using contemporary sociological theories (Beck, Giddens, Sennett) as well as those of new social movements (resource mobilization theory and the theory of collective identities), we analyze interviews with company employees and with contract workers. Results indicate that labor unrest by contract workers are becoming a new social movement which, in their search for more fair labor conditions and the reduction of arbitrary inequalities are challenging society today.
