Abstract

Danish company Novenco Hi-Pres developed the world's first high-pressure ventilation system for ventilation of ships in 1953. Today, the company is part of York International and is the largest independent supplier of heating, ventilation and air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. This article looks at the main elements of modern HVAC systems for marine applications: It describes traditional single and twin pipe systems used for cabins, low pressure air conditioning systems for larger rooms such as public spaces, the company's Hi-Jet ventilation system for cargo spaces, and the Multi-Jet system for engine room ventilation. Also briefly described is a refrigeration leak testing and system performance inspection service from Oslo based ship service specialist Unitor.
