Abstract

Introduction. Broadcasting news by using videos is no longer exclusive of television in the digital scenario. It is more and more common to find this kind of contents also in traditional press websites. This research is focused on the study of the usage of self-produced video stories made by the British newspaper The Guardian to cover the Scottish Referendum. Aim: The aim of this paper is to determine the characteristics of this type of exclusive videos. Method: Therefore, all the articles and live blogs published within the Scottish Independent Blog section have been analysed. The period of the analysis covers the week of the celebration of the referendum. Results and Conclusions: Main results determine that self-produced videos published in articles have a greater quality and take special care for aesthetic than those produced for the live blog, where immediacy is more important than contents‟ quality.
