Abstract

Data transmission from source to sink is the basic concept of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). If the sink is stationary then the nodes nearer to the sink will deplete their energy faster and put the sink out of reach to other nodes in the network. To address the problem mobile sinks are preferred so that energy available used judiciously, consequently increases the overall uptime of the network. Challenges lies with the sinks location updation to all nodes in the network using minimal communication overheads. In this paper, we proposed a mechanism where sink updates its position and movement in fixed local area with time. The proposed protocol takes care of minimal communication overhead compared with LURP (Link Updation Register Protocol), and BBM (Basic Broadcast Method). Additionally proposed protocol is simple, reliable, scalable, and supports multiple sinks with minimal communication overhead.
