Abstract

In the context of the broader changes in tourism approaches, cultural tourism is a distinct example of the potential paradigm shift in the tourism industry. Culture is indeed closely related to territory, identity, traditions and, therefore, inhabitants and communities. The aim of this book is to encourage discussion on the concept of cultural leadership in this transition phase for tourism and thereby lay alternative paths of development for cultural tourism destinations at a time of profound change and dialogue in the post-pandemic period. Also, within the context of increasing attention and discussion on post-pandemic tourism innovation, the presented contributions aim to trigger reflection on the potential to design more specific and appropriate strategies and measures for cultural tourism destinations and on the role cultural organisations (public, private and civic) might play in more sustainable models of tourism development for cities and regions. Within this framework, the volume aims to present a multidisciplinary approach that includes contributions from academics and professionals in the field of cultural tourism management, urban planning and sustainable development, as well as heritage, museums and cultural and creative industries.
