Abstract

Thirty-two species of the families Withiidae and Cheliferidae are recorded from Kenya. One genus and six species of Withiidae and four species of Cheliferidae are described as new, the withiid genus Pycnowithius and the cheliferid genus Beierius are recorded for the first time from East Africa. The species Allowithius crassus Beier 1935 and A. Somalicus major Beier 1935 are considered as junior synonyms of Withius somalicus (Beier 1932), Beierius walliskewi gracilis Beier 1955 is sunk into synonymy of B. Walliskewi legrandi (Vachon 1938). The status of the withiid genera Stenowithius, Nannowithius and Xenowithius (which is considered as junior synonym of Withius) is commented. An artificial identification key is proposed for the Kenyan species of those two families. © 1988 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
