Abstract

Small networks such as small office/home office (SOHO) face the same threats as large enterprise networks. However, they also contend with the challenge of limited resources and budgets for IT expenditures. In such networks environment, the role of administering the system often falls on the business owner or on the default setup when the system was installed. In most cases, the owners do not usually have the time, resources or expertise to work on complex security problems. Similarly, most of the default setup use to have some loopholes which were not initially identified. This paper describes the primary security challenges facing SOHO networks today, and suggests simple easy to use security solutions to resolve these challenges. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2010.
