Primitive neural cells migrate from the neural crest during embryogenesis to reach their target organs. They then undergo differentiation into melanocytes, adrenal medulla cells, C cells of the thyroid, sympathetic ganglia and the enteric nervous system (ENS) of visceral ganglia, sensory tracts of cranial and spinal nerves, as well as the membranous bones of the face and palate. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.
