Abstract

The East African countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have been at the forefront of the HIV epidemic since the first cases of AIDS were reported in Rakai district in southwestern Uganda in 1982 (Serwadda et al., 1985), and in Kagera region in northwestern Tanzania in 1983 (Fothal et al., 1986). © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2008.
