Abstract

Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (United Stages Vienna) has since the early 1990s produced original German-language musicals at its three Vienna theatres: Theater an der Wien, the Ronacher, and the Raimund. Once successful in Vienna, VBW typically co-produces replica productions across Europe and East Asia, collaborating with local producers while maintaining the original VBW production. Major successes have included Elisabeth (1992), Tanz der Vampire (1997), and Rebecca (2006). VBW is notable for achieving global success without Broadway or West End acclaim.
