Abstract

A new series of novel (2S)-2-({2-[1,4-dihydro-3,5-bis(methoxycarbonyl)-2,6- dimethyl-4-(2-nitrophenyl)pyridin-1-yl]-2-oxoethyl}amino)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl) propanoic acid (3a) and its analogues 3b-j has been synthesized. These compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory activity and antiulcer activity. Compounds 3b and f exhibited significant antioxidant action comparable with that of standard. Efficacy against inflammation and ulceration was also found to be significant. The chemical structures of these compounds were confirmed on the basis of spectral data. © 2011 Pharmaceutical Society of Japan.
