Abstract

The nervous system is divided into the central nervous system, which includes the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system which includes the nerves and associated structures that carry signals to and from the periphery. This chapter describes the organisation and anatomy of the nervous system, and provides an overview of the role played by mechanical factors in nervous system function and dysfunction.
