The present condition of Europe's HDI alliance, agreement between different printed circuit board (PCB) dealers, was discussed. The HDI Alliance which appeared less than two years ago was the brainchild of Dr. Walter Schmidt, a pioneer in microvia formation. The difficulty with the Alliance arise in establishing common goals between former and current distributors and the allocation of their expenses. The disagreement on the use of plasma for microvia formation to thin unsupported materials led to a slowdown in the total PCB production in Japan.
