Abstract

This introductory chapter is written for those who are new to the field and desire a short overview of the present status of clinical and preclinical radionuclide therapy. In particular, this chapter provides an overview of the radiophysical concepts and key aspects of dosimetry and treatment planning that are beyond the scope of this book's focus on biological aspects of radionuclide therapy. Finally, a discussion on the choice of radionuclides and the availability of radiopharmaceuticals is provided. © 2008 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.
