Abstract

Particle shape, size, and density play a fundamental role in determining both primary and bulk powder and suspension properties. For example, dissolution is related to the primary particle size in the system and rheological properties to the bulk particle size distribution (agglomerates and all). There are a large number of techniques both qualitative and quantitative that can be used to characterize particulate suspensions and use these generated data to predict the behavior of the materials in formulations or for quality control purposes. This chapter explores the various particle size, morphological, and other properties that can be used in the characterization of suspensions.
