Abstract

In the present work, efforts have been made to explore the use of sugarcane bagasse as an adsorbent for the removal of cadmium Cd (II) from aqueous solution. Experiments were carried out in a batch process with raw biochar prepared by sugarcane bagasse at 700 o C pyrolysis. Optimal parameters covering contact time, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration and pH of the aqueous solution. Higher removal efficiency (98%) has been achieved at 1 (mg/l) Cd(II) concentration in 4hr of time at 4 mg of adsorbent dose and pH 9.2. It was observed that the sugarcane bagasse can be used as an alternative, attractive, effective, economic, and environmentally friendly adsorbent for Cd (II) removal from waste water.
