Abstract

We describe the case of a Boxer dog, male 9 years old was presented with cardiac tamponade four times by recurrent pericardial effusions, which undertaken a partial pericardiectomy subphrenic as definitive treatment. During surgery a small mass was detected in the cardiac base, whose size was not visible during echocardiography done to the patient. Biopsy of the mass corresponded to a paraganglioma or quimodectoma. The division of this was not possible due to its vascularisation, but partial single pericardiectomy subphrenic allowed prolong survival in this patient with an excellent quality of life.
