Abstract

The research is developed around fact-checking as a traditional activity of journalism, based on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance the work of information verification in the context of the presidential elections of Ecuador in April 2021. The piloting of the “Checking-bot” tool is proposed, which allows verifications through WhatsApp. By means of a test with journalists, it is evident that tools with artificial intelligence are useful; however, their use has not been generalized and it is still necessary to adapt them to use habits and consumption of users information, likewise, it is estimated that fact-checking is positioning itself as an activity increasingly present in journalistic routines and its use is not only useful within them, but it is also a valuable and necessary tool to educate citizens in the current context.
