The development of minimally invasive surgery may be changing the indications for unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. While UKA has never enjoyed consistent enthusiasm in the orthopedic community, minimally invasive techniques are bringing the procedure back into favor. Although exuberant enthusiasm for new techniques is common, the minimally invasive UKA has now proved successful in several surgeons' hands and is likely here to stay. However, further evaluation is needed to better identify the correct indications for the procedure. © 2005 Springer Medizin Verlag Heidelberg.
