Abstract

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is accepted as the most effective and accurate way of evaluating known or suspected soft-tissue tumors of the foot and ankle. Although soft-tissue masses are relatively infrequently encountered compared with other conditions requiring imaging in the foot and ankle, accurate and detailed evaluation is critical in their proper management. With modern surgical techniques, even malignant tumors can often be readily treated with excellent clinical outcome. A variety of different conditions can also mimic both benign and malignant soft-tissue tumors and recognition of these is helpful in expediting treatment while avoiding unnecessary investigations or interventions.
