The heaviest burdens of illness in the United States today are related to aspects of individual behavior, especially long-term patterns of behavior often referred to as “life-style.” The Centers for Disease Control (1980) of the United States Health Service have estimated that 50% of mortality from the 10 leading causes of death in the United States can be traced to life-style.
