The following core units are intended to cover the main areas of competence that are at the heart of interactive media. They are supported by other areas of competence that are not to interactive media but which are nevertheless of vital importance to it.These are detailed in the ‘supporting units’ section below. The Work Effectively In Interactive Media unit is intended to be a foundation for all the other units - it should be considered a part of all the other units, but has been separated out for convenience. While it is envisaged that completion of any one of the following units (plus the Work Effectively In Interactive Media unit) should be sufficient for a role in the interactive media industry, it is anticipated that most practitioners’ expertise would encompass more than one unit (see About The Interactive Media Skill Set below). Please note that throughout this document we have used the term ‘product’ to refer to the outcome of an interactive media development project; we use this for simplicity and consistency, but we recognise that in some sub-sectors or areas of activity, other terms, such as ‘solution’ or ‘deliverable’ may be more appropriate.
