Abstract

The Global Military Conflict Simulator is an application that allows the unfolding of a large virtual war in real time, involving hundreds of thousands of soldiers, with a virtual Earth serving as battlefield. The simulation attempts to achieve unprecedented scale and scope by providing a global map, satellite imagery and elevation coverage through cloud computing, web mapping technologies, providing a flexible real time simulation engine capable of managing a huge number of units and replicating the organization of an actual army through the use of a hierarchical multi-agent system. This paper covers the context, general architecture of the system and the multi-agent system organizational model. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
