Abstract

Antihistamines are drugs that exert their biological effects inhibiting the action of histamine by occupying its receptors. They are divided into four subclasses depending on their tendency to bond with H1, H2, H3, or H4 histamine receptors. H1 antihistamines are the most commonly used in dermatology for the treatment of urticaria and other pruritic dermatoses.
