Abstract

This paper introduces and describes a number of novel models of evolutionary designing beyond that of genetic algorithms and genetic programming treating designing as search. The focus in many of these novel approaches when applied to designing is to add to the range of possible designs which might be able to be produced during an evolutionary process. Four approaches are briefly described: genetic engineering; reverse engineering of emergent features in the phenotypes; developmental biology and generalizing crossover.
