Lifelong learning throughout the world, and particularly in the USA, the UK, Germany, Japan and Canada, has been influenced by a tide of economic rationalism and neo-conservative ideology. Since the 1990s, in Europe, lifelong learning increasingly reflected a neo-liberal ideology, focusing on economic, rather than humanistic, goals.
