In a metaphysics such as that of Duns Scotus, which is based on contingency, the question arises as to what possibility there is that man, insofar as he is a viator, might reach a true knowledge of nature, and what the value of such knowledge would be, since nature is a system that depends on the divine will as expressed in its potentia ordinata.
