Abstract

This paper gives an overview and extends the Special Thematic Session (STS) on research and development of technologies for hearing-impaired, deaf, and deaf-blind people. The topics of the session focus on special equipment or services to improve communication and human computer interaction. The papers are related to visual communication using captions, sign language, speech-reading, to vibro-tactile stimulation, or to general services for hearing-impaired persons. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
