Abstract

This chapter is designed to provide those readers who have little or no background in physiology, or those who desire a review, with basic knowledge concerning the structure and function of the respiratory system. It is hoped that this chapter will provide a fundamental understanding of respiratory physiology that will form a foundation upon which to integrate the information on various aspects of respiration and behavior presented in later chapters.
