Abstract

The battery management in non-road HEV is exposed to higher requirements compared to on-road HEV, since higher power densities and load dynamics are usually demanded. For the control of HEV (see Chap. 4), a battery model comprising the nonlinear effects is required to be used in the controller itself as well as essentially within the battery management system. The state of charge of the battery is not measurable online, though, and needs to be estimated online during operation (Hametner and Jakubek 2013). In this chapter, a generic methodology is proposed comprising nonlinear system identification and optimal model-based design of experiments (DoE) of battery cells, which can be used for battery module modeling and accurate SoC estimation during operation.
