Abstract

The role of slags in inclusion removal is discussed and in situ Cofocal Scanning Laser Microscopy observations of processes relevant to inclusion removal from molten steels are reviewed and discussed in terms of the importance of the thermodynamic and thermophysical properties of industrial slags. The dissolution of various inclusions such as AI2O3, MgO, MgAl2O4and TiN in synthetic and industrial slags is discussed. © 2011, Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co. All rights reserved.
