Abstract

The author gives opinion on a paper on sport injury and the injury epidemic among young athletes and college athletes in the U.S. She stresses the need to take into account full lifespan of intercollegiate athletes to determine whether excellence in sports is compatible with good health. Also cited are some of the important dimensions of athlete health affected by such injuries, including physical, social and emotional well-being. Four specific reflections on the evidence presented in the paper are offered.
