In the aftermath of traumatic events, there is a need for serious engagement with the religious assumptions and practices underlying contexts of trauma. This essay introduces readers to “post-traumatic public theology," and makes the case for theological engagements with the political, practical, and contextual realities of living amidst the ongoingness of violence. Reframing theological work in response to trauma studies, it features the work of theology as cultural analysis, as constructive engagements with religious teachings, and as a re-envisioning of public spaces.
