Abstract

This chapter analyzes and studies the situation and perspectives of intellectual property protection of living organisms from the standpoint of the interests of the development countries in general and the Latin American region specially. It is a rather complex issue on which there are considerably different positions between the developed and the developing countries, companies linked to genetic engineering, universities, research centers, and development agencies. © 2010 Springer-Verlag New York.
