Microbiological evolution and bacterial resistance have hastened intensely over the last era. Nowadays, anti-microbial infections have become a chief cause of morbidity and mortality, in addition to a major challenge to antimicrobial therapy. The requirement for novel antimicrobials has been more noteworthy than ever in the face of increasing resistance to the older ones. Among the organic compounds with biological activities, the heterocyclic core is exhibiting a remarkable role. The most remarkable and well known heterocyclic nucleus is 1, 3, 4-thiadiazole which is considered as a main fundamental component of many pharmacologically active agents such as antibacterial, anti-tubercular, anti-fungal, anti-viral agents etc. It has been established as pharmacologically significant anti-microbial scaffolds due to its broad and potent activity. By analyzing the structural modifications in its derivatives for various antimicrobial activities, an endeavor has been made with recent research outcomes on this core in this paper.
