Abstract

A method of evoking cross-cultural communication between Japanese and foreign tourists with using digital signage has been proposed in this study aiming to improve foreigners’ sightseeing experience in Japan. The proposed method utilizes a digital signage with interactive design, which resembles some jigsaw puzzle and requires gestures and cooperative work to see complete information, to evoke communications between the signage users. The results of evaluation experiment showed that the proposed method can evoke cross-cultural communication significantly more than conventional slideshow-type information presenting method.
