Abstract

This chapter provides all the contextual information and data necessary to carry out the empirical analysis in this book. The main objectives of this chapter are, first, to familiarize the reader with both the organizational context under study (the Spanish judicial system) and with the main characteristics of Spanish junior judges as a professional body; second, to explore whether problems raised during judges’ daily practice can be explained either by individual characteristics of junior judges (e.g., education) or by specific features of the locations in which they carry out their jobs.
