Abstract

The contribution of invertebrate species to nutrient cycling, their roles as vectors and intermediate hosts of disease, as rice pests, and as biological control agents is outlined. The author discusses how the application of pesticides impacts upon floodwater and soil invertebrates and on biodiversity; implications of bioconcentration of pesticides with regard to aquaculture within ricefields; and the nontarget effects of pesticides on disease vectors and intermediate hosts. -L.E.Evans
