Three basic principles for overload control of high speedcommunication switches are presented, evaluated and compared. Then theconcept of priorities is introduced into these models. Priorities aregiven to jobs related to calls being in progress. In a second case jobsassociated to one out of many services are prioritised. The approachtaken here is applicable to centralized processor systems as well as toa loosely coupled fully distributed processor environment.
