Abstract

In the paper, how to apply an improved Genetic Algorithm (GA), which introduces a diversity control method in GA, is presented for data mining of student information obtained in a Web-based Computer Culture Basic Course in College. It aims at obtaining interesting association rules so that teachers can improve the performance of the system. To check the proposed algorithm, a Web-based Computer Culture Basic Course developed for use by students is used. First, the proposed methodology and the specific characteristics of the course is described, and then the information obtained about the students is explained. We continue on with the implemented Genetic Algorithm (GA) and finally with the rules discovered and the conclusions. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.
