Abstract

This paper describes the use of the STRUDL II computer program for the optimum design of a steel pipe rack structure used in petrochemical plants. The procedure is reported to lead to substantial weight (and cost) savings in most situations. Considering the tonnage of steel used in petrochemical plant pipe racks, the savings potential may be remarkable. A two-dimensional frame representing a pipe rack structure is shown.
