Inserción laboral y educación profesional de mujeres en Concepción-Chile (1895-1940)

Abstract

This paper is part of a larger research that analyzes the diverse social actors in the modernization process in Concepción, Chile between 1880 and 1940. Female workers constitute an important social group to appreciate the rhythms and complexities of the modernization process in the region it is; for that reason we are interested in understanding the integration of women into the formal labor during the modernization processes. The emphasis is primarily on the analysis of census data that show us how the work is concentrated in certain trade differenticted by garder. Secondly, we are interested to contrast the outcome of the census data analysis with the first half of the 20th century social transformations that were moving to a greater concern for the education of boys and girls, with emphasis on technical education, aiming to train skilled workers to participate in the modernizers process of the period. Wath we are interested is to see, if the emphasis placed on the technical education really transforms towards a real insertion of the women in the labour word.
