Abstract

This chapter discusses the relevance of formal education, the “ins and outs” of higher tertiary education. It focuses on their various categories and the necessity of creating and maintaining excellent higher education institutions. Africa’s empowerment through what good education offers is explored via this discussion on formal education and its connections to nation-building and citizenship for society’s overall benefit. It also highlights two crucial issues in African education today: technology’s impact and the need to expand opportunities for women. It closes with an overall reflection on the future of Africa’s higher education.
