Abstract

• Health practitioners can play an e ssential role in shaping public policy with their knowledge of how healthcare is delivered. • Engaging in public policy allows physicians to a ddress systemic barriers to health improvement and to impact populations of patients rather than one patient at a time. • Further training in public policy m ay prove useful in pursuing this field. For a career in policy-related research, a PhD might be helpful, but for people interested in being practitioners, a Masters degree should suffice.
