The more we extend the frontiers of remote sensing for earth resources, the more we begin to realize that, despite the wide array of sophisticated remote sensing devices, one of our major problems is still the unraveling of complex spectral relationships within the biological skin of the earth. Until we learn to detect, identify, and categorize vegetational patterns with remote sensors, we will not have fully achieved the promise of remote sensing.
