Abstract

Presently, the governments throughout the world are funding abundantly to promote the use of renewable energy in order to meet the growing demand of power, and overcome environmental pollution related issues as well as reduce dependency on the depleting fossil fuel reserves. One of the major contributors of renewable energy source is wind energy turbines. They are considerably preferred because of the desired levels of reliability, efficiency, and availability of source, i.e., wind. There are few key technologies adopted to ensure their reliability and efficiency of operation of modern wind turbines which are advanced health monitoring and diagnosis together with fault-tolerant control (FTC) and optimal control. This paper is a review of several such mentioned technologies on wind turbine. Among them, the main focus is given on FTC and FDI of wind turbine using several methods. This paper as such creates a wholistic study on different methods of fault reduction, control, and detection of fault as well as isolation of faults and their effects on the performance of wind turbine.
