Abstract

Examines the Relational Frame Theory (RFT) definition of understanding, and considers the issue of verbal regulation and rule-following. The authors consider the 3 functional categories of verbal control (pliance, tracking and augmenting) and provide RFT interpretations of why a listener may or may not follow a particular rule.
