Detailed knowledge of the spatial localization of the population, in digital format, is indispensable in the analysis of many geographical problems, such as the optimum location of certain public or private services (commerce, education, health, etc.) or planning a transport system, among others. Traditionally, demographic information has referred to spatial units related to the census, in which the population is uniformly spread, a situation which makes it difficult to carry out reliable and precise analysis and assessments. This circumstance requires the overcoming of the rigid framework of administrative boundaries, in the search for a procedure that should lead to obtaining results which are closer to reality. With this intention, we show how, starting from the information contained in the cartography of the land register, it is possible to develop a procedure, in a G.I.S. environment, which can carry out the transfer of the population of the administrative sections of the census to the residential plots of the land register, resulting in making the location of the population more rigorous and accurate.
