Much progress has been made over the last six years or so in the delineation and understanding of receptivity phenomena. This has come about principally through detailed analysis of a few critical experiments using the results of related asymptotic analyses. While we can now give some fairly detailed descriptions of some receptivity mechanisms, we are also impressed by the myriad of combinations of disturbance type and receptivity mechanism that can come into play in the transition process. All of the presentations of this panel dealt with boundary layer flows.
